We explored the famous intersections of Piccadilly Circus in London, Abbey Road in St Johns Wood and the Scramble Crossing in Shibuya for this series of Icons

Icons Series (Intersections) - Wall Art - for Brainy & Footsy

Design Outcome: Wall Art Prints

An iconic place

The Iconic Series (Intersections) present the three famous intersections of Piccadilly Circus, Abbey Road and Shibuya Scramble Crossing as diagrams of motion. Like a study of movement and its context we broke the visual representations down to simplified forms creating a consistent visual language.

"A space acted on by us gives that space purpose and identity."

The visual language is devised to simplify and identify the critical elements that make these places function and memorable.

Form

The form the language takes is essential as it defines the context and the motion of those that use the space. Neighbouring buildings and footpaths are loosely defined with basic geometric shapes. The pedestrian crossings contrast with the footpaths and buildings, with a more consistent rectangular pattern of shapes. Finally the motion of people using the crossings are visually represented by varying lengths of line giving the impression of movement.

"The juxtaposition for shape and form enhance both elements."

Colour

Colour selection was carefully considered to ensure elements of the design contrasted and enhanced each other. The pedestrian crossings were coloured in primary red to naturally come forward as the iconic centre of the idea, while the footpaths and buildings sit back in subtle tones of subdued red and greys. Pedestrians are represented by brown to differentiate from the crossings but maintain the common colour language. The overall impression of colour is intended to be dynamic and vibrant, representing the nature of the real spaces
