Solarpunk

Solarpunk is a visionary movement that imagines a sustainable and harmonious future where technology, nature, and human society coexist in balance. Rooted in optimism and environmental consciousness, Solarpunk envisions cities powered by renewable energy, covered in lush greenery, and designed with eco-friendly architecture. Celebrating the publishing of the Solarpunk Anthology, Flame Tree Press wished to capture the Solarpunk themes in posters.

A world touched lightly by us was the underlying theme in our approach to the poster design. Demonstrating a city hub perched high above into the air, minimising its impact of the earth below.

Theme

Living respectfully in nature requires harmonization with the environment. It involves understanding the delicate balance of ecosystems and making conscious choices to minimize harm, such as building delicately upon its surface. Respecting nature also means recognizing that humans are part of the natural world, not separate from it, and that our well-being is deeply connected to the health of the planet. Prioritizing coexistence over dominance.

Technique

The layered paper look technique was chosen to add an element of meaning, craft and delicacy to the poster. This process creates depth, texture, and dimension by stacking multiple layers of shapes, colours, and cutouts to form a visually engaging composition. Inspired by traditional paper cutting and shadow box art, this technique gives the illusion of depth and perspective. This reflects the idea of a complex layered approach to any successful solution and the depth of thought and perspective needed to achieve the solutions.
