Working from within

Working with Cucumber Offices to bring life to a dark space located in an arcade in Camberwell, we based the solution on working with the space's inherent qualities and limitations. With minimal natural light and restricted views from the main working space we chose a design methodology that focused on the interior.

"Full focus was on the detail and materiality within the space."

With rich walnut veneers, shagpile carpet and velvet finished fabrics we approached the project with a whimsical nod reminiscent of 1970s interior design. This genre lent itself to an internally focused design space ideal for the projects constraints and focusing on the volume that surrounds it.

Letting the details speak

Working with this design intent and the spaces requirements needed flawless integration of all design elements. Feature select furniture pieces were balanced with bespoke timber veneer and steel workstations designed specifically for the space. Materials were selected for their quality, depth and tactile nature.

"The space couldn't just be another office. It had to be something special."

Finding the personality

With the space lacking in natural light, views and its tight proportions we ensured the volume was fully utilised and made the most of its opportunities. An existing second stair no longer required was filled in and taking advantage of the void it left, we created a sunken lounge to supplement the social spaces and further capture the aesthetic of the 1970's.
