Working with Moda Design Group and Marko we created a contemporary vegan burger joint to life in the heart of South Melbourne.
Marko Vegan Burger Restaurant - South Melbourne Market
150sqm
The Local Burger Joint
Building on the brands ideas of local, fresh and healthy we created a methodology that focused on the space integrating with the market fabric and its community. From a light touch to the existing space to muted colour tones punctuated by primary red branding the restaurant nods to the local milk bar typology.
"Like a comfortable corner store that has been loved for generations."
Street Life
Supplementing the restaurant's kitchen and implementing street activation we designed an external kitchen contained within a steel and timber box on the footpath. The white steel perforated panels delicately speak to the main restaurants aesthetic while allowing for the box like mass to appear translucent and subtle on the street. The lightness of the steel panels are anchored with a recycled timber plinth which is integrated into seating wrapping itself around the existing footpath infrastructure.
"The market energy is captured and utilised through the positioning and integration of the architecture."
Timelessness
Internally the colour scheme, detailing and furniture selection is designed to create a space that is timeless and captures design movements across generations further enhancing the idea of a space that has been enjoyed for many years.
